Agricultural University of Athens (AUA)

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the 3rd oldest university in Greece established in 1920 in the city centre of Athens. As a university, it is devoted to the study and improvement of the agrifood value chain, covering all stages of food production, promotion, resource management and technological development. In Nutritious by Design, the Laboratory of Food Chemistry and Analysis (AUA-LFCA) is the Lead Organisation and Coordinator. As a unit within the Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition, AUA- LFCA focuses on the chemical composition of foods and its role in health. The laboratory developed the first Branded Food Composition Database for Greece in 2021 and has since been actively advancing food composition data research. With food data expertise and educational excellence, AUA-LFCA will bridge food science and industry partners to codevelop a data-driven new product development framework and deliver targeted training to food producers.

NUTRIS

NUTRIS is a leading nutrition and public health research group in Slovenia. As a pioneer in food data collection since 2011, it established and now manages the comprehensive Slovenian Branded Food Composition Database. The group’s key technological asset is its proprietary Composition and Labelling Information System (CLAS), a software suite for efficient data collection and management.
For ‘Nutritious by Design’, NUTRIS will provide the project’s technological backbone by leading the implementation of its CLAS software in Greece. Its ambition is to create the project’s evidence base by spearheading the data analysis and producing the foundational cross-country report on processed food quality, which is essential for developing the new NPD framework.
